    I wasn't thinking of DOI in particular when I wrote my essay but it seems a fair example of the sort of organizations about which I was thinking.

    I don't follow, from what you've said here, how "resolution" and "retrieval" are substantively different. I'm happy to use either term, I think.

    With respect to the technical argument, I think I need a little more space than I've got in this comment form :-). I'll try to draft a followup essay this weekend.
