    Dear Stu,
    I think everything should design for people and the Urban life.
    Architecture is incarnation of living current, our fault in modern era was reinventing the architecture (as reinventing the wheel).
    If you take look on ancient cities or historic urban quarters surviving today you will see the approach of public places and place for people is not a new method . I think Christoper Alexander, in Timeless way of building show this important issue very nice.
