Commissioning Week at the Naval Academy is like a wedding that goes on for a week. In fact, for some Midshipmen, it culminates with a wedding!
The saturday following this year's activity witnessed 15 successive weddings at the USNA Chapel, each scheduled at precise 30 minute intervals. I cannot testify as to whether the scheduling held up. If you were late, well... at least you could watch someone else's (they mostly look alike in those spiffy uniforms in anycase, no?). Sure glad we didn't have to add THAT to our planning activities.
Even short of nuptials, there was plenty to keep us busy. Lots of family and friends, a garden party, our own party, at least three other parties, three breathtaking and sometimes ear splitting encounters with the Blue Angels, pipers, bands, two parades, a formal ball, five hours in Navy & Marine Corps Memorial stadium, gelato at the docks, and pensive walks about The Yard in preparation for a final joyful celebration of completion. Did I mention shopping at the Midstore? A selection of pictures can be found in a photo album on this site.
Congratulations, Mathias. On to Quantico.
